Reflecting: pt. 5 (Bye, Bye Beautiful) by Beth K HannahI ached in the morning chill
Holding my skin as an offering;
Knees bent, ready to give sway.
I knew my hands could not pour words out
And I knew I could not grasp you.
I clung to the notion you'd slay dragons for me
But even now, as we lay in peril,
I see distance in your eyes.
I see death in your smile.
You used to whisper,"I'll love you as soon
As I let go of her."
I always told you,"It's alright, as long as
I can feel your hands on my thighs."
She broke the sunshine of your day
And stole the moons beckoning eyes.
I lay in front of this window pane,
Perishing without my soul.
You stole me and my footsteps.
And now you walk away,
Smiling teeth and all. 11/10/2004 Author's Note: "Now you wanna kill me in the act of what could maybe save us both from sleep and what we are." Coheed and Cambria

Posted by Don Coffman on 11/12/04 at 06:12 AM This poem makes me think of how beautifully written words can convey even the saddest of things. Wonderful job with this, and I very much agree about the dragon slaying line. That's a classic. :D |
