Tin-metal Hug

by S. Pelham Flood

The shape of an awkward hug
is that of a scrap-yard
sculpture...twisted metal

arms bent around a rusted
core. Fragile to an observer--
but in actuality it is solid,

rigid and purposeful. Its
ugliness intended? Only the artists
are familiar with the desire

behind the form, the act.
It's their game of charades
screening their feelings

in covertness--to avoid
the wandering eyes of the ex
obsessor standing in shadows.
