Time to Say goodbye

by James Zealy

Tick The clock crawls
Tock Time is drawing nigh
Tick For a last pause
Tock Before we die

Tick Waiting for the end
Tock Praying that the soul's
Tick Blessings portends
Tock Fates final scroll

Tick Angst ridden memories
Tock Washed away
Tick Graceful shimmering
Tock Watery waves

Tick Last Times arise
Tock To say goodbye

10/28/2004

Author's Note: I guess this is still on my mind. My mother is gone. I never got to her in time when was in the hospital the last time. I barelly got to my home town in time to see her before she was to be cremated. A first attempt at a sonnet.

A painful time when the clock here on earth stops for a loved one. I like the graceful shimmering...perhaps the waters path as we cross that river...

Yes with every tick or tock of the clock time speeds away. Good poem James

This is beautiful and powerful, James. I love the "tick" and "tock".

This one really made an impact on me James.. very original in form.. and so emotional. Really great read.. straight from the heart.

in real time, you may not have reached her physically, but in eternal time I'm sure you did, in spirit, and she knew. Beautiful.

The Tick / Tock s in the poem add a slowing factor to it. Since you have to take a break from the actual narrative/text to acknowledge it, it shows an almost obsessive amount of attention to the time passing. Sad and heartfelt

Poignant and effectively conveys the feelings associated with this sort of experience. Good job.
