screaming in a deaf ear

by Emily G Myers

a poem of love
presumes too much
I waste emotions
on those who don't feel them too
I write pretty words
for one who doesn't care
I shout my feelings
to a boy who seems deaf
I use up colorful ink
for words he'll never read
my heart is spent
and what have I to show?
only verses I've written
that don't matter one bit
why should I take up lines
for poems that don't make a difference?
why should I proclaim emotions
to those who can't help me?
and once again I'm left
wanting more than you can give
wondering if you'll ever know
all the pens used for poems-
all the paper with scribbles
all the hopes and dreams
I've screamed to the world
