blaze of haze

by Emily G Myers

Leaving behind all sorts of pain,
I went walking down a country lane.
Through a sticky blaze of haze,
Testing my tether to you these days.
Found a spot where honey drips,
Lightly touching sun-phased lips,
Where stormy skies don't dare to spy,
The sun keeps my thoughts warm and dry.
I was keeping my self busy that day,
No longer wanting to be your prey.
Walking, as I, down that country lane
Was a boy who's smile was not feigned,
Who took me along; put love in my heart.
He swore to me we'd never part.
His love was marmalade and molasses
That made me forget that time even passes.
We walk even now through blazes of haze,
Being caught as we are in a lovelorn daze
I don't think of you anymore,
How our love was hidden behind tattered doors.
I live now with a love-honey-dripper
Who gazes at night at the big and little dipper.
He loves the things of nature that God Himself made,
And your love for his I would never trade.
We're still walking country lanes these days,
Thinking only of sticky blazes of haze.
