writing music

by Emily G Myers

I wish I could write in words
All the beautiful things you say
In just one line of music
You've stunned me so
With your mind - your hands
They construct wonders
Absolutely unspeakable
I don't quite know how to tell you
How much I've learned from you -
From just a sound you've presented

A poet surely has no words to parallel
The amazing intensity of a musician's measure
I could never have the power you do
When your hands move along the strings
When your voice shouts the gleaming truths
When your arms beat the perfect rhythm
That kind of power is only for musicians
Poets tend to be more quiet
And usually only hope for sufficient rhythm

Oh, could I please borrow a bit of your music's beauty to use for my poem?
My mind rings clear the message you've sent
And I'd like to send a message or two
But I don't think I'll advance higher than I am now -
A soprano in the downstairs chior
However, I'm a poet and we're notorious dreamers
So maybe one day I'll emerge from that choirgirl hotel

Just look at this hope you have given
That's the kind of power musicians possess
And I was wondering, Could I borrow a bit?
Or -at the very least-
Say thank you for the lovliness you've shared?
...Thank you all...
