on holiday

by Emily G Myers

can't you hear me calling?
don't you recognize your own name?
you must be lost somewhere-
a scorching desert?
a dripping jungle?
a treacherous mountain range?
I've searched the world to find you
but all I've discovered are pieces of a love that once was
like a thunderstorm, you left as suddenly as you arrived

didn't I mean something to you?
wasn't I the one who set you free?
I must be off somewhere-
a land of desperation?
a sea of lost hopes?
a sky full of dreams that won't come true?
I've worked forever to be who I am
but I've found that all I want to be is with you
and like the bluebirds in October, you flew leaving me by myself
