peltier

by Emily G Myers

Born and raised to fear, but not without cause,
Were the ones we pushed off the land.
So they decided to arm themselves -
Then, with guns
Now, with truth.
Harassed and beaten, they'd taken enough;
Once fired at, they fired back.
Defending women, children and elders,
The men claimed justice, and justice was served...
To all but one man
One Man
Who spends his days and nights alone.
A cage holding back an innocent man.
And I have to stop and wonder...
America, the land of the free?
Not when an innocent man lives in a cage
Not when people are raised to fear
Not when we're without right to defend
America, the land of the free?
