lethe

by Emily G Myers

I got lost when I was searching for the Lethe
I don't long for the fountain of youth
I'd rather drink to forget
So many memories that scar my heart
The only way to escape my past
Is to drink from the Lethe in Hades
So I'm still wandering around
Trying to find a way to forget
Passing by people who don't know my hopes
They wouldn't care anyway
They wouldn't give a thought to my problems
Like that night I lost my best friends
They flew away so fast
Or slipped through the cracks in the floor
And I haven't seen them since
But those I pass wouldn't care
They wouldn't try to sympathize
Or understand why I search for the Lethe
Because they're searching for it themselves
