petals of morning time

by Emily G Myers

The petals of morning time fall near my face
I pull my quilt fully about my head
And turn over in my blankets quickly,
Pretending I didn't see the sun through my window
My thoughts drift through that land between sleep and waking...
I wish I had a kiss to awaken to
I suppose it'd make the waking easier
But I still hope that somehow, oh so quickly,
I'll fall back into the dreamland I just left
That place where I would have a kiss to wake to
There's an ocean-eyed wizard waiting for me there...
But I know that I can no longer deny the brightness of day
And I decide to endure the hardest part of waking,
That first burst of frosty air, so different than the warmth of a bed
I know that the day has inevitably begun
And I have only another night of dreams to look forward to
