To Harbor Pretty

by Angela Cotterman

Poetry is pretty
wrapped in sequence
sometimes with rhyme
sometimes with spin
that leaves the beginning
far from the end.

But I have left pretty
in Barbados
and there is only
South End sand
wet in a coffee cup
taken regular
and regular here
is not black but bitter
sweet with cream.

Poetry is pretty
when sepia thighs
turn the candlelight
into your lover's eyes
but I have left pretty
at the beginning
and end here
still
with poetry.

"sepia thighs" - that's brilliant.
