fable

by Emily G Myers

the days I spent being a faerie
flowing clothes and long blonde hair
yeah, I was a faerie princess
but all things grow older
and all things mature
I'm not a faerie princess anymore
I'm the nerd-teen-queen
hoping to be seen

things aren't all princes and princesses these days
not every girl is faerie princess
not every boy is a prince
and I found that out the hard way
putting faith in faerie godmothers
who turn out to be the hag at the end of the block
and valiant kings
who are nothing more than court jesters

all things grow older and all things mature
