can't write him a poem

by Emily G Myers

maybe I could see forever in his eyes
yes, I do find a smile in him
and a laugh deep inside
but I can't write him a poem
I've no pretty words for him
his waters don't run so deeply
he's not the kind of lake you swim in
The kind of boat you row
so I'll take a little hike
wander away from him a while
to see if it's worth coming back

***only a few days later***

roads I've taken and skipped down
only to forget shallow love
and those roads have shown me truth
and compassion
and that love doesn't come easily
it isn't worth coming back
I wouldn't return if I could
so many guides have pointed out a path
how could I deny their advice?
I'm walking away now,
and I'm not coming back

*thanks to Jon and Sim for unintentional inspiration*
