1920s or 30s, Says He to Me

by Megan Langley

Voice of an Angel? -- Not quite.
More like, some flapper from the 1920s or 30s, says he to me.
What that mean, soothin' and light?
Or should I be blarin' "be-bop...oooh yeaaaah"
With all the breath I got?
Ya know, my stomach got done tied in a knot
When I did the jitter bug to "Red Hot Henry Brown"
'Cause I don't wanna sing no "Little Orphan Annie."
Rather be spun 'round
Like Ginger Rogers, that's me.
Light on my feet
As I swing, swing to that jazzy beat.
So don't chu be tellin' me
To sing with this Roarin' Twenties voice
'Cause if I got my own choice
You'll find me at the Speak-Easy
Dancin' up a storm to Glenn Miller's Band.
Come on, what chu 'fraid of?
Gimme your hand and join this honey
Out on that there dance floo'.

Author's Note: Some guy told me I sounded like I was from the 1920s or 30s. Not sure what he meant by that, but I wrote a poem about it on the advice of my poetry professor. I tried to get the beat going with this one.
