sensory enchantment: smell by Betania TeschYou smell of coffee shops--
stale cigarettes,
last dregs of fair trade beans,
revolution.
Especially revolution,
a smell of sweat
and bitterness,
of hope eternal
and excitement,
stirring in me
all of the anger
and ennui,
the superfluous revolutionary
long hidden
swept under lovers
and gathering dust.
You shake me out
and exhale
the soft scent
of this personal
revolution
onto my tongue. 10/21/2004 Author's Note: trying to record this person in all of the ways I sense him...not the greatest, could be revised, but mostly just a snapshot. any thoughts?
