take it easy (love nothing) by Lauren Pearlthe faint smell of sweetness
and sex fills the air and
i choke.
gag on my tongue, if you will.
the moonlight strangles the
small of her back, and you
finger it like guitar strings,
like she's the perfect melody
and this could be your one hit wonder.
oh, but i had my two-year
chance and i wasted it! just
holding my tongue and pretending
it's easier not to breath.
it's not like i believed in it,
anyway.
but perhaps if we were not
so good at vanishing, we could
have made something of ourselves
it's just that i was always empty
and she was always everything. 10/18/2004 Author's Note: poem's title borrowed from a bright eyes song./// weak ending: help!

| Posted by Max Bouillet on 10/20/04 at 09:35 PM Great images and word choice throughout. The regret oozes from this piece like a an overfilled cup. At the ending, you may wish to play with the themes of empty and full and how they apply to the emotion. great read. |
