Topic: Spreading Too Far

by S.J. Tyler

spreading too far
over the edge of the bread
my peanut butter stains the paper plate
i don't notice it
until i've eaten the sandwich
and by then the oil has
spread too far
creating an ocean
around the large blob of peanut-butter-island
the inhabitants, the tiny Peabu people
start to build up a civilization
carving small adobe-like huts
and adorning them with bread crumbs for roofs
i have fortunately left behind
but now the oil has spread so far
they can't get to the quarry
so they've run out of material for roofing
and some huddle inside their topless huts
afraid of some downpour
that i doubt will fall from my kitchen ceiling
others are more venturesome
and take off their own roofs
to make mini canoes and rafts
and float to the quarry
on the other side of the ocean
and harvest all they can
to take back to their comrades back home
I'm still hungry
so seeing the blob
i scoop it up with my index finger
and enjoy one last mouthful
of peanut buttery goodness

Yeah! Nothing tastes as good as that last blob of peanut butter on your finger! I enjoyed reading this - a good job on the topic.
