Silent Observation by Shonda Creemerthe vibrations of the wind
slipping through the leaves
the crunch of gravel underfoot
the screeching of the rusty, peerless
merry-go-round as it revolves
its small cargo
the singing of the arms of
a swing-set sustaining each
higher and higher with
trips closer to the clouds
children laughing wildly
parents chatting mildly
just another Saturday
afternoon in the park 10/02/2004 Author's Note: Thanks to Don Campbell for sharing his Garfield Park, South Pasadena.

Posted by Tom Goss on 10/04/04 at 06:10 PM I love the first 10 lines, and I think it may be a better poem if it's ended there (& the last 2 lines could be the title). Strong, succinct voice in those 10 lines. |
