Wine and Dine

by Christopher Shin

Yesterday is today and a moment
is but a heart and jump away.
I try to remember a youth that
can not be retraced in time.
Isn't it ironic that blood
can spread like jam on toast?

We are all victims of choice,
and the misery we claim is
the out come of what we do
to ourselves in this world.

I try to recapture the smell,
and the poor decisions but
my net is to big and they
escape like butterflies.

Dreams become jagged pieces
of hope and despair,
and I ponder isn't it a shame
that we strive over broken
jagged edges.

So let's refill the glasses
of misery and toast to
loves that we want to
disappear like the sparrows
in the winter season.

I'll gulp down my ashes
if you dine with me and
talk with me about better days.
I'll find peace when time
stops for us and the air is
crisp again.

So we will dine on empty tables
and empty hopes, cause
tomorrow is said and done.
Good night sweet company.
Maybe mercy can find you
