On my Birthday

by Alison McKenzie

I’m only just now grasping with
Breadth of understanding,
Life upon life;
Soaring eagles’ nests
And glittering water byways;
The mountains,
Gentle centurions,
Cold faced, fiery-hearted beings
Of majesty and grace.

Steps of laughter
Bring the next level.
I continue on my journey,
Ever mindful
Of precious opportunity;
Lift and sway,
Skip and swirl,
Song of my heart rising
To the One who knows -
The Alpha, the Omego!
Such great anticpation!
Unimaginable joy expanding
Beyond my wildest dreams.

There is peace
And it resides within,
Resting me as in sojourn
Of slumber dream
Though I do not sleep.

I loved this poem. The flow was perfect and left me with such a peaceful aftertaste.
