... the 10, 595th day ...

by Charlie Morgan

... the 10, 595th day ...

... just 10,000 days ago, or so
I saw wrinkles, new, marking
this universal infant as a
long, amnio-sac alien.

... a mere wisp of cherubic attar
couldn't enter the germ-free
area where light shocked an
unused cornea.

... from dilation to incubation a
new child bursted forth, a womb
now empty, the arms now filled,
nourishment from a teat.

... a daughter! mine! ours! to keep,
to form, to squeeze, to paint the
sky a sea-foam with, a lady-in-wait
for daddy and mom.

... where'd she go? have you seen her?
a little girl in cowboy boots that
come to her knees, or a pig-tailed
second baseman, did you?

... maybe you saw her yesterday in
her three-piece pin-stripe,
or at the board meeting,
maybe at the last exit.

Author's Note: Happy Birthday to a lovely Child of God, my daughter who, in spite of the glass ceiliing, is "making" a good life with her hubby.
