carnal autopsy by Rachelle Howeyou were there amidst the lost.
i beheld only half your face.
the rest, pre-worn and plastic,
dwelled in the shadows, a testiment.
you recessed into the folds of macabre,
double-stitched within
the sanguine red that slicked down,
down.
arms empty and stained;
sacrificed blood dripping.
there was a time
i would have believed
with fangs barred and
tongues full with rot.
i watched your insides
coil from the heat,
wax skin melting.
melting
when the death bell rang.
melting
while the chant ran deep.
deep from veins and butchered wrists.
but you were there
when the forsaken
forgot their birthrights.
there, atop mount carmel.
witness to a black sun,
and a god that could not answer.
