Big Red Flags

by Alison McKenzie

Big red flags
Collide in loud slaps
With the new wind
(God, please don’t let them be
Reprobate winds of change;
Hurricanes named after anyone I know
Well…).

The bells from the church next door
Aren’t ringing out hymns
While my heart slams
In adrenaline driven tempo.

My prayer is simple.
Lord, Your will entirely!
My resolve is sure,
I will accept nothing less.

Allison, I like this so much. The last stanza ties it all together well, and unifies the rest of the poem toward the realization - Your will, not mine, God. Excellent work!
