{st.i.ll dre.am.ing} my horizon (this is a dream) by Richard PaezHold me to the candle bear to witness my progress.
My sky is cloud-covered, a milk-white shell of bone permeable and impenetrable. I breathe-swim in thick air my second-sky-skin never getting far.
Bobbing in mothers exhaled inner-sea-breath,
I reach in towards, climb farther up-on, my arms-reach horizon only to emerge there-back again, just where I started.
This is a dream. Suck another breath through mouth-and-gill strain to inhale enough to yell through this albumen.
This is a dream. Wake up to find my infinite sky, my endless horizon, a small, repeating parabola.
This is a dream.
Hold me to the candle bear to witness my progress.
My sky is cloud-covered, a milk-white shell of bone. I am yoked to the current of my upward-curving sea. Adrift, but never getting far.
Bobbing in mothers exhaled inner-sea-breath,
I swim in towards, dive farther down-on, my wings-reach horizon. Hold me to the candle watch me spin on the axis of my chalaza.
And I may just eat my way through my-self before I emerge.
This is a dream

Posted by JD Clay on 09/05/04 at 02:36 PM I like the progression this evolving poem has taken-on. Much like the egg itself, a metaphoric incubation, so to speak. Dream or no, life goes on dispite the climbing and diving, where only the strong survive. Then one day, the hatchlings wings just might unfold.

my endless horizon/a small, repeating parabola." My very favorite stanza, in a poem I enjoyed reading. In a way it reminds me (somewhat) of the Greek myth of Thetis (a sea nymph) being the mother of Achilles. Excellent work! |
