September

by Jane E Pearce

So many things to remember-
new books, classes, sweaters
long and skirts with pleats,
pearls that remind
of summer's full moons,
with music still playing
among the pines, the years
of  innocent loves.

Many things to recall-
a beautiful day
for a wedding
on a sunlit saturday afternoon,
white satin dress, train,
and veil to meet a soulmate,
to remember, tenderness
of a special september.

So many septembers
have passed - sweaters
are shorter, skirts more plain,
and the pearls still remind
of a summer moon,
but the beautiful music
hanging from the pines,
is never quite the same again.

Aw. I love the last stanza a lot. I'm a sucker for stories of past days that can never really show up in their special way again.
