The Letter

by Mike Loftis

Just lay it there on the table
I’ll read it later if I’m able
Right now I’ve got these tears in my eyes
I never had a chance to say good-bye
or ask her where she’s going
or ask her why
I wish I new what I did so wrong
Life is about accepting change
but why can’t some things stay the same

Chorus:
I should be holding her
instead of hurting tonight
wondering where she’s gone
and praying she’s alright
I should be waking up
holding her tight
Then I wouldn’t have to read
what she didn’t write

V2:
Turn the light out as your leaving
I need some sleep I won’t be reading
anything she wrote to me tonight
Some things can wait until tomorrow
I’ll dream of her then face my sorrow
Right now I need some time to get myself right
I just can’t face her leaving now
I wish I could bring her back somehow

laden with regret and emptiness. Interesting way to start, with an imperative tone and reference right away to the letter. well done.

So very melancholy... did a melody come with it? I wish I could hear it as well...
