View the Sky

by Amanda Bullington

A child looked up to the darkening sky,
Mourning the loss of its daily light.
“When sun sets on life do you cry?”
Asked the child,
But no answer came to awaken her faith.

As a woman, that same child looked to the sky,
Hating the darkness dragged in by the night.
“You can cover my body but never my heart,”
And she walked away scowling,
Disdain on her face.

Grown older, the woman gazed up at that sky,
Fearing the winds drawing nearer and nearer.
“Through long years I have loved you,
Oh wondrous sky!”
Then she closed her eyes tightly and drifted away.
