A mother's Heart by James ZealyCaretakers of their children's souls
An art once valued now rare
Feeling from the first movements
Kicking, pushing swimming
As the little one makes itself known
A bond to her heart never broken.
Children grow and are nourished with knowledge
Their mothers vigil always present
Loving, hugging, consoling, teaching her brood the values of the heart.
Its okay to love, to feel, to cry, to fight for what is right
Her young forever bound to their mother's heart.
Through success they applaud
Through Failure they console
When children are in trouble
Mothers never forget their own.
Mothers are forever, their children they will always be.
Right, wrong, successful, it matters not.
A child only has one mother
Forever tied to her heart.
As time progresses a mother ages
Children mature passing the rebellious stages
Mothers are once again mothers
Not an obstacle to be avoided.
Toughness and gentleness equal qualities needed
make a mother's heart the most special gift of all.

Author's Note: An early effort, but I think it conveys a message that has universal truths. There is something about the bond between a mother and her children, that cannot be duplicated.

Posted by Heide McAlister-Bates on 08/25/04 at 05:09 PM James, as the first anniversary of my mother's passing approaches, I found this especially touching. A well-written poem that illustrates the importance of our mothers' presence in our lives most effectively. Thanks for writing this. |
