this circle has two sides
the inside
the outside

at the centre
lies a cynosure
its status sustained
by a synthetic cycle

the cynosure radiates energy
which passes through the void
to be absorbed
by the mirror
delineating the circle

its energy generates light
which is reflected
back to the centre
supplying the cynosure
with absolute influence

in theory
the circle is self-sufficient
the cynosure controls the flow
creating substance
in its own mirror-image

in practice
the outside
by virtue of its presence
perpetuates the circle
validates its existence
gifts it a purpose

inevitably
the side estranged
loses definition
disseminates
acquires a new dimension
develops depth

the reflective surface
is enticed outwards
the mirror cracks
disintegrates
the slivered remains
scattering
beyond the limits of symmetry
merging
with a nebula of diversity

the cynosure reflects...

does it transgress the void
confront insecurity
to circulate freely
as a particle of light?

or feed upon its own energy
devour itself
and vanish into the myths of relativity?
