Oleanders in February

by Quinn Vokes

Freedom rings in my ear
You’re not far from where you are
And not very close to here, so
Smile, Brother, we are favored
Oleanders are in bloom
Lift up your arm and I shall carry you

So close to you,
So close to God.

Freedom rings in my ear
Echoing it’s last thought in the cold winter weather
The flag is flying, the sun is shining, so
Smile, Brother, we are favored
Oleanders are in bloom
Lift up your arm and I shall carry you

Smile, Brother, my heart needs peace
Oleanders are in bloom in this forsaken place
Don’t worry, brother, I know you worry
And I worry too
Lift up your arm and I shall carry you

So close to you,
So close to God.

So close to where I ought to be -
To find peace
It’s where I need to be -
To find peace

We’re so close, can’t you see?

Smile, Brother

Paradoxes and contradictions effectively poetically posted. Reminds me of the scripture, "Draw near to me and I will draw near to you." (God speaking.) "Fear not for I am with you." (God speaking.)
