Heart of Stone

by Alison McKenzie

Wielding your twisted self righteousness
Like a sword
You swipe at me again
You expect certain responses
Only this time I donÂ’t duck
I donÂ’t side step the jab
Nor do I defend myself
I just stand there
Rock solid strength in silence
Refusing to be injured
I listen as the blade of your tongue
Comes so close to slashing me
But somehow, does not touch me
And I stand woundless

After nine years of jumping through your hoops
Victim of your lies
Watching our children stumble and falter under your
Quietly corrupt leadership
I understand a little more now

One of us is an illusion
A mirage that will dissolve in the coming heat
You have attacked with broad sweeps
I say bring it
For here I stand
I will not fall
And when all your cheap façade
Has been scrubbed away with
Lye of truth
Truth will stand with me
I will face my part with courage
Knowing IÂ’ve done my best
While you hide behind your smoke and mirrors

Small, tiny man
Harsh words do not make you a giant to me
And your heart of stone
Produces no rhythm of life
Though you've planted your seed in yet another womb
In the end you will cry for just one
To hold your calloused, dying hand

Author's Note: I was surprised today by an attack by my childrens' father, who is the custodial father of most of our children. Divorced for nine years, it just eats him up when I empower our children with their options.

Your life seems so hard. It is amazing that you still have the power to stand unscathed. Great read that is inspirational.

Sharp words, even actions, can't destroy truth. I hate that this happened, but I so appreciate the passion and courage that kept you standing. Very well said.

well its time to stand up, you have nothing to lose. Nice expression of your anger.

Sounds assertive. The man after having failed to lure 'when all your cheap façade Has been scrubbed away with Lye of truth', when all the false projections of his personality went stray is now here in his true essence, his basic Nature. The only assertive course lies in the 'Refusing to be injured'.And well, I see you facing your part 'with courage'. You are a courageous woman.
