Several Miles

by J. P. Davies

If it's two miles to sundown
and the car just eats the road
carry on to the next town
Try to lighten your load.

If your wheels just keep spinning
finding solutions in the night
In the state of mind you've been in
the world might just pass you by.

Could you tell me,
where the sky will see me next?
Could it take me,
to the place that I love best?

It's only several miles to somewhere
but I haven't found it yet.
It's only several miles to somewhere,
but I haven't been there yet.

It's only several miles to nowhere,
and I haven't seen it yet.

There's a very concious reason
if you awake to find me gone
I'm on an exodus of awareness
you'll find I'm not the only one.

And if it's only one more mile
to a place  I can call home
then the road can fade behind me
while I carry on alone

Could you tell me,
where the sky will see me next?
Could it take me,
to the place that I love best?

It's only several miles to somewhere
but I haven't found it yet.
It's only several miles to somewhere
but I haven't been there yet.

It's only several miles to nowhere,
and I haven't seen it yet.

I like the flow of this poem, and the way it seems to take you somewhere without actually going somewhere.
