Crimson Soul of Render by Alison McKenzieI am bleeding
Rivulets of crimson
Racing to the ground
Tracing my sorrow
Back again to humble birth of thunder
O mother, embrace me
Gather my scattered being
One last time
And sigh
Breath of life receding
Back again to the clouds
Whence comes loves
Melody bent on gossamer thread
Sliver of hope
In rent hearts
Dying dreams aloft in fading
Rest at last
O father, embrace me
Im not dead
Distance of truth
Gentle face in
Mist of mourning
Dawn of embers
Treacherous path on
Thin precipice
I will stay warm
Blanket of chronicles
O child, embrace me
Keep me with you
Expanse of measure
Your sweet hair
Close my eyes and sleep

Posted by Rula Shin on 08/12/04 at 05:57 PM Stunning Alison...I love the subtle alliteration and the gorgeous flow. The tone is one of beautiful sorrow pleading for that last touch, that last sense of human connection and interaction with loved ones before that final creeping fade into blackness or whatever comes next, as if in attempt to leave something precious behind. The mood is thoughtful and peaceful even in this scene of sadness and helplessness...like a smiling, accepting embrace of life at the most crucial moment imaginable. This poem is full of beautiful emotion, positive despite its heavy-hearted aura. That's what I saw. I really enjoyed this piece very much. :-) |
