Lost For A While

by Thomas K. Hunt

I’m totally surrounded
With no one to confide
Searching for an exit
That’s never been denied

Turning off the world
Laying back in my mind
Taking a deep breath
Entering another time

You can go there with me
Hopes for a pleasant time
Sit back in your seat
Get lost within your mind

Find yourself an image
Lay down in some peace
Flip through these pages
These lines of true release

Begin another journey
Put your mind against the wind
Think of a direction
To a place you’ve never been

Walk among the pines
Crackling leaves with each advance
Golden rays of shine
Light the way for natures dance

Lay down in the tropics
Feel the warmth of the day
Sail with the tradewinds
Faces wet, with ocean spray

Witness the raging fury
Windswept mist in hazy gray
Waves bursting like explosions
On a storm filled winter’s day

Find yourself a memory
One that brings a smile
Sit back and lose yourself
If only for a while

I’m like you just like me
All the same in the end
A need to get lost
A need to pretend

Thomas, wonderful poem. The first stanza really pulled me in. I don't write rhyming poetry either, because it always comes out too hokey. You've done a great job here with the rhyming and the thought throughout the poem. Ahhhh! a chance to escape! ;-)

Imagination can take one to fabulous places and events. Well done Tom...Charlie
