beautifuloldwoman

by Melanie J Yarbrough

she breathes heavy-
and we, with her.
barely laying,
she is our entrancement,
though we stare
at the television with the ballgame,
at each other,
at anything that won't remind us
the dead and dying in the room-
she breathes heavy
as our hearts in this moment of losing-- so many actions

and life [death] is still

Melanie, an outstanding balance of emotions, between the living & death. By your words, you must have loved mama, too.

this reminds me of when my grandmother died. my uncle and i were watching 'bill and ted's excellent adventure,' but never got to finish it. (i haven't finished it to this day.) and we were eating dinner. and she just..passed. it was weird. i think the dead communicate with the dying during those last 12-24 hours. she was talking to her husband who died back in 73.
