the long way home and how we never fully made it. by Lauren Pearla few lights,
no more than a mile
and 2am atlanta traffic:
the drive should have taken
no more
than four minutes.
but my left hand was in yours
and my right was holding the wheel
and that smile was so plastered
on your face and we both knew
i wasn't going home just yet
and in all regards, i wasn't
the one doing the driving.
you like the late hours of the night
and i like any hours that contain you
but the constant wailing of mr. oberst
sang a different story;
i could not help but give in.
please, i begged with heavy eyes,
don't hold this against me
but as we pulled into my driveway
and as i left the passenger seat
without kissing you like i wanted to,
i think we both knew that you would.
