No Regrets

by James Zealy

AS life goes by ever faster
Reflections of opportunities lost
Victories achieved at personal cost
Life's suffering settles the inner beast

Aging Maturing, realizing dreams
Accomplishments not understood boost self esteem
On the edge of breaking through
Talents buried surfaces anew

Close so close, yet far away
A time to take chances, hesitation stops the play
Limits defined only by self doubt
Convince me that I need not let fear shout

Destiny is defined by positive choices
Don't listen to so many voices
At the end, yours is all that counts
After all, that's the one I hear pronounce

I could have, I should have, been better
Alas, that really is not the matter
I did, I did, I did well
I did, I did, But I fell

Victories, defeats they really are the same
Neither happens if we sit and complain
Our lives are truly sustained
Bye persisting past the pain

In many ways such effort is blessed
Human souls put to the test
Bring fruits of pain strength and joy
Such a miracle, we survived life's ploy.

This contains a beautiful msg. The life is a continuous process and living is in the process of living and not in any assumed destination. And events are interconnected. Bad leading to the good and the other way round.

So true! I love your poem, because it reflects the paths I've chosen to get to where I am close to realizing several of my dreams. My favorite lines are, "Don't listen to so many voices/At the end, yours is all that counts," because that was me. Once I stopped listening to them the determination began. May your son find his passionionate dream before the "music" dies within him.
