cemetery of lost thoughts (revised) by Rhyana Fishersaccharine rhymes from seventh grade
bitter roots hidden beneath past pretenses
truth sheltered behind a straight face
nobody bothered exploring
imaginary words writ in skin
bruises yowling of cowardice
jagged across oppressive rule
thus were the cage bars wrought
trial by terrorized misery
echoing within the void neglect left
ignored in the all-encompassing necessity
of immediate obedience and order
the pages remained blank
truth in ink lost
strangled by the 'what if' of discovery
buried in 'should not' 08/02/2004 Author's Note: written after reading Poetry Read by None by Andi Mallory.

Posted by Michelle Angelini on 08/03/04 at 04:57 AM I like this poem so much! The consonance continues throughout the poem, and the last stanza is especially strong. Good work and a tribute to Andi. ;-) |
