They Must Have Herd Me Coming by Charles J HannanFrom the house I bounded
Wind and night upon me
A warmth of covered alone
Racing down the street
Only streetlamps are awake
My breath is getting faster
As wheels whir my morning tune
The cattails dance on roadside
And crickets sing along
Looking back for cars I find
Only me here on my bike
Gives me time to think of things
And get caught up in deep thought
On autopilot I dip down my usual path
At the end of Balsh Rd.
Right past the paster I jumped
Just about out of my skin
For on the other side of the fence
I couldn't see a thing
But damn sure heard a thrashing
From the woken cows within
