Bay Nymphs: Part I

by Max Bouillet

The bay nymphs
playfully tug at my soul,
blow Gulf kisses to my cheeks,
and gently entreat me
to slip into the salty depths.

In awe, I succumb
as they take my hand
and guide me to the surf.
Once engulfed, they become
delirious and eagerly
lap over me in waves,
ripple across my flesh,
and fill me with the serenity of ocean.

And yet,
the darkening skies whisper
ominous reminders amidst
the playful giggles and frolic
that the southern gods are seething.
They have been ignored
to the point of tempest
at being crushed under
a host of leather-bound books
that reek of brimstone,
blood-soaked wood,
and hypocrisy.

Author's Note: This is shaping up to be a longer work and I wanted to post it in easy to swallow bites. Let me know what you think.

Hey Br Maxwell, It's nice to se that little green arrow re-appear beside your name :). This has a fantastic fresh feel- lively and vibrant: dark and alluring - however I thought the last line wrapped it up a little too nicely as a poem unto itself. I'd have preferred to see something a little more ambiguous for further explanation in your next instalment, which I'm looking forward to seeing...All the best G

Hmmmm....thought provoking-love the flow and tone. Reminds me of how I feel about the present administration, but I am not quite sure that is what you are saying. I just hope the southern gods count the votes correctly down there this time.

I have to agree, this poem has a lovely flow and tone. It starts out dreamlike, inviting, and calm and ends on an entirely different note.

You may have here a poem potential for an epic! Myththelogical and Religious allusions stand out! Will this be about Nature or the nature of man? It will be interesting to see what develops.

Well, this presents a SCENE. Paradoxical? Or is it hypocritical? Or these are just relative point of views. Nature doesn't belive in good or bad. What is will have to be seen as what is in the language of the nature. Lets see where you lead us. Or does this lead you.

in the true nature of your skill as a writer, you have delightfully AND disturbingly created an atmosphere of mystery, insight and delicious trepidation... brilliant, my friend... i love this piece... blessings...

Bite-size is good, especially if each part can be read as a piece in its own right, which this can - the ending slaps the reader full in the conscience. Not sure if you need render the titles with explicit suffixes - I'm sure the following 'parts' will be recognisable.
Thanks for my slap :>

Wow. I want to read more, see how you define the southern gods... this is an incredible set-up and in this for the long haul.
