Park Day

by Angela Thomas

Lets go to the park. It’s park day. We’ll sit
On our little bench with the three lamp posts
And the herd of ducks and we’ll talk about Pandora
And all the things she’s put in our boxes.

You’ll talk about being famous, I’ll shrug
And explain how no one understands my very
Demanding philosophies. Then, we’ll end up
Like an old couple, in the park, hand in hand

Watching the birds and talking about nothing
But nonsense, each of us skirting around
The real issue, why I’m feisty, and why you
Called me. In the end, we’ll ride home the long
Way, while you’ll hope I don’t leave you dry later,
And I know that I’ll end up that way eventually.
