Arguing Semantics by Teri T LahmonA chasm yawns between "do not" and "can not"
A deep greedy black hole
Which devours all sentiment
Teaching, finally
What it is to miss you
Nascent shades of grey, infinite in their ambiguity
Between "can't" and "won't"
And the heart learns, finally
The dubious nature of the human will
How fear can stagnate love
How despite the instruction of romance novels
Gordian knots do not begin to unravel themselves
After a hundred pages under the steady assault of devotion
A sliver lies between "will not" and "do not"
A subtle connotation
The glint of an eye
Minute twitch of an unwilling smile
A dismissable, barely noticeable crack in space
Into which a heart can slide
And be lost to nothingness. 07/27/2004 Posted on 07/28/2004 Copyright © 2025 Teri T Lahmon
