A Plastic Vow

by Deanna M Gritsonis

It wasn’t a get down on one knee
tear up with excitement moment
But never the less it was an (in bulk) commitment
As we took a new step in the form of a Sam’s Club Membership
Bind by a plastic card and box of 36 ice sandwiches
We grew
And found something to commit to with our love

Finding there is no reason to rush love
No diamond ring to keep us happy
No baby’s room to paint
But to take it slow and buy in bulk

Its seems the world and my generation
Is so ready to put a ring on the finger
Or a baby in picture
When for us it isn’t a step we want to take

But we stepped forward
In our own logical way
And found a new ground
For us to stand and commit too

For me it didn’t have to be on one knee
But a plastic card just between him and me.
