rain rain rain

by Jessica Yen

it's raining outside and i can see the lightning flash through my closed curtains and i can feel the thunder roar and shake the ground. the computer monitor shakes each time the thunder cracks. i'm next to the window now, looking out in the pitch darkness. i can't see the rain falling, but i feel it and i taste it. i imagine the ripples it creates when it hits the blacktop and slowly fades away into the sewer. each time lightning strikes it's like God's taking a picture of the rain because everything stops moving and i see a snapshot of the thunderstorm. one second of lighted peace and then back to darkness again. i hear the muffled cries of the rain, the tears of heaven. they are waiting to be heard, waiting to be seen, waiting to be tasted.
