Goodbye by Richard VinceAs I said goodbye...
Her smile said "see you soon"
And her eyes said "I want you...
"To give me a dream..."
And I remembered wanting her
When she was my dream
My unattainable...
She was my Sun...
But I never ventured into her sky
Because his stars were all
That she ever saw.
I remember how it felt
Ecstatic but hopeless...
Soaring but falling...
And all the time she smiled
I don't think she knew how to know me
But now to her I am someone
Not an event...
A someone...
But she is the same to me...
The sunrise of the day that never was...
The star I never saw at night...
The fire that left me cold
The girl I never knew
Because I spent too long
Getting to know her
Her smile still hits me
In the centre of the heart
And her eyes still say she wants me...
But I know she never will
So I try to pretend she's someone else
Not the girl I adored
Because I hate to feel this way...
To feel fooled...
To be fooled still
So I say goodbye...
To the smile that says "see you soon"
And the eyes that say "I want you". 07/19/2000 Posted on 07/14/2004 Copyright © 2025 Richard Vince

Posted by Maureen Glaude on 07/15/04 at 02:10 AM very touching and real. Especially the spending too long getting to know her. Several lines really hit home to me. Wonderful, though so poignant and sad. |
