a second taste

by Wendy Geal

these lips are rusted thick and dust- hushed waiting
to taste you
i sing against the curves of your shadow
humming along the dark night like a twisted ballad
i am growing sick with love songs feathered under your skin,
most illuminous- hungering for words
that could speak this yearning
and send it spiraling into my ears with the same softness as your voice
in all its perfect rythym
you fall in like a slow wave and i feel the chill of the ocean air
though we are lying in sullen warmth
birthe the light in me and make it breed as bright as sunlight,
sweet energy i live for, the sound of your dark red blood swirling across
your veins- pulsing with desire

Author's Note: sometimes i think you want the second kiss even more than the first.
