A Night's Score

by H.M Stevens

Under the smothering glare of night
I stared with Copernican wide eyes

Only to find insignificance
blotted across the sky- for
Those celestial spheres
outscored my importance
in infinitesimal amounts.

And so, I retracted-
to my room of inflated thought
in humbled dispensation,
as with all good men.

But nay-
the heart did not falter
to a god-fearing despair
For my relative purpose
revealed itself
through phantom loving beats.
