Running From the Man by Madeline PestolesiRunning, every few months,
From places of employment
That make me dread the working week
And wish for stomach flu
So I can call in sick.
Society forces a lot on me
But the fact that I need money
Is the most painful.
Finding a job without a degree,
That allows me to go to school,
And doesn't require a cup of my urine
Forces me to take worthless jobs at minimum wage.
As though serving someone lunch is the most important thing I will do with my day.
So I'm running again
To a new insane boss
And a fresh crop of angry customers.
But don't worry,
I'll be back in a few months. 07/08/2004 Author's Note: Wow, glad that's over. Off to the next lame summer job!

Posted by Indigo Tempesta on 07/10/04 at 08:50 PM i love this! first two stanzas are especially fantastic. they're really concrete and amazing. i'd love to see more strong images later in the poem (i.e. instead of saying "kissing crabby-customer ass" make it more visual or otherwise sensory to make it more effective.) but this makes me laugh, and it's SO TRUE. thanks for sharing! |
