Things I need for Summer

by Mary Ellen Smith

One must have happy heart
To make a summer sunshine start
Glad plans of watermelon smiles
And cotton shirts in breezy styles.

One must have a lemonade
To sip on hot days in the shade.
A place to swim, a place to sun
A place where kids can play and run.

One must have a bit of sand.
A seashell too from off the land.
A pair of sandals for the feet
A nice cool place for friends to meet.

One should have a summer tote
Sneakers to wear when on a boat.
Sunscreen and cool sunglasses too
And deet so mosquitoes won’t bite you.

One should have a floppy hat,
Umbrella and a nice beach mat.
Vacation planned just for fun
Yes, sunshine is for everyone!

I enoyed reading this poem with its clear images, upbeat tone, and just the whole idea of the topic. Wonderful work!
