It's A Jungle Out There

by Mary Ellen Smith

our cat got outside the other night.
a screen door left ajar
was the moment of escape for him.
doesn't he know it is a jungle out there?

possums, dogs, bigger cats on the prowl.
we even saw a coyote on Bellcourt Dr. the other day.
very strange for our city area.
a munchkin cat with little short legs
is not equiped for the big cruel world.

"Felix...here Felix"
ok yes, he is named after a cartoon character.
but he has no magic bag of tricks
for whenever he gets in a fix.

we spotted him after a quick search
walking just like an outside cat
along the top of a high fence.
the moon relected yellow in his eyes
the jungle in him reborn.

back inside.
safe.
all's he does is cry to go outside now.
doesn't he know that it is a jungle out there?

Cats need a vacation now and then, even a safari. ...Charlie

Hi Mary Ellen, Great write. Your cat got a taste of what it's like to be outdoors, but without gettin in trouble.
